Gustav Klimt and Vienna's Golden Age
Monday, May 23, 2022, 07:00pm

Join us via zoom at 7:00 PM on Monday, May 23, when art historian Janet Mandel makes a return virtual visit to the Springfield Free Public Library for the presentation, "Gustav Klimt and Vienna's Golden Age." This program is free and open to all members of the general public and preregistration is not required. The zoom link to access this program is https://us02web.zoom.us/j/86884899365?pwd=MTVseDYxb2RvNVJiaGxXVjRxZ2Nqdz09

Gustav Klimt dominated cultural life in Vienna at the turn of the Twentieth Century and was the bridge between the Symbolism of fin-de-siècle Europe and the wave of Modernism that captured the imagination of the Continent. This talk will tell the story of his remarkable life, while examining his ebullient landscapes, sensual drawings, and ravishing portraits.

Janet Mandel taught in New Jersey’s public schools for 32 years, the last eighteen of which were at Columbia High School in Maplewood, where she taught English, art history, and World Languages and Cultures. Now retired, Ms. Mandel presents illustrated talks on a variety of art history topics at adult schools, libraries, museums, senior centers, community centers, and similar venues. More information about Janet Mandel can be found on her website for ArtTalks at https://jcmandel.wixsite.com/arttalks/bio
