Food Insecurity In NJ (Webinar)
Monday, January 30, 2023, 07:00pm

Join us for a webinar at 7:00 PM on Monday, January 30, when high school student Yash Shah presents a program about food insecurity in our communities and what we can do to help combat this serious social issue. Yash will explain what the phrase "food insecurity" a refers to and why it is part of a larger public health issue, and he will also provide data to demonstrate how food insecurity both effects our immediate communities and society at large. Yash also will discuss his ongoing involvement in working to alleviate food insecurity in our area, including his current food collection drive at several public libraries in our area.

To join us for this program, go to https://us02web.zoom.us/j/87017724676?pwd=US80Sks2UFdTNUo3NXlLZTFUODVPdz09

Yash Shah, a junior at Morristown Beard School in New Jersey, has officially launched the Health and Hunger Initiative, a program seeking to distribute nutritionally-balanced food kits to local residents facing food insecurity.

“It’s simply the right thing to do,” says Yash. “We can all play a small part in solving this big issue, starting from our own neighborhoods.” Having witnessed families in New Jersey struggling to put food on their tables during the height of the COVID pandemic, Yash first started running food drives at his school, collecting and donating over 3,000 lb of food. This year, he sought to combine his passion for helping the community with his knowledge of nutrition to build his initiative, which aims to address food insecurity with healthy food options in New Jersey.

Yash first sources the food from both donations and purchases, then packages them in a nutritionally-balanced way, in accordance with USDA guidelines.

To support the initiative, you may drop off any food donations at the collection boxes located in the Summit, Springfield, or Millburn Free Public Libraries starting on January 4th 2023. Alternatively, you can make a monetary donation to the project through its GoFundMe (link on the website listed below) — all proceeds will go towards acquiring food for donation.
